Who Was Shirley Chisholm?
Shirley Chisholm was a Brooklyn-born educator, activist, and trailblazing political force. In 1968, she became the first Black woman elected to Congress, representing New York’s 12th District. Just four years later, she shattered expectations again by running for President of the United States — as a Black woman, in 1972.
She ran under the slogan “Unbought and Unbossed.” And she meant it.
Shirley Chisholm wasn’t just making space for herself — she was clearing a path for all of us.
Why a Folding Chair?
In 1972, Shirley Chisholm — the first Black woman elected to the United States Congress and the first Black person to seek a major party's presidential nomination — famously said:
“If they don't give you a seat at the table, bring a folding chair.”
She wasn’t just talking about politics — she was talking about access, equity, and unapologetic persistence. This collection is our tribute to that energy: bold, disruptive, and impossible to ignore.
Our Pink Folding Chair acrylic lapel pin doesn’t have any words on it — because it doesn’t need to. It’s a symbol. A signal. A reminder that you belong in every room where decisions are made.
About the Pink Folding Chair Design

-
Color: Pink, because visibility matters — and feminism isn’t finished.
-
Shape: A classic folding chair, easy to carry, impossible to ignore.
-
Material: Acrylic, because it’s strong and unapologetically shiny — just like the people it represents.
Wear It Loud. Carry It Proud.
This collection is for:
-
The folks who’ve been talked over, passed by, or counted out.
-
The people doing the work even when the spotlight’s pointed elsewhere.
